Grid Doctor 300 markets itself as a Solar Generator System, basically a portable battery with solar panels. How well does it do that job? Pretty well, I can’t complain. As far as specs, it says It has a battery capacity of 25k mAh, weight of roughly 9 lbs, has pass-thru charging, an easy to read LCD screen, and a nice variety of ports to utilize for any kind of electric device!
So, regarding the solar panel, that you have to get. There’s good and bad in this, good is that you get a solar panel for it so you can be more emboldened to venture into off-the-grid camping. The bad of course is the cost, of course it adds a chunk to the overall cost and if you want the Grid Doctor 300 that badly, you just have to deal with it.
Pros:
The LCD screen is easy to read, the weight isn’t the worst, it has pass-through so you can charge it while charging other devices, and it has a lot of different ports to charge your devices with.
For myself, I used it for the increased output over my Jackery Explorer 240. Now, I can plug in a small blender, but to be honest it’s rare that I’d take a blender camping anyway.
Cons:
The LCD screen’s blue light has a really strong glow, you will notice it at night. Also, it looks like you have to double press some buttons just to activate the port.
In short, this thing works fine, very much as advertised. Pass-through works well, the battery lasts a decent amount of time, I had a rotary fan plugged into it for roughly 5 hours and it never seemed to have a problem.
Would I suggest it to anyone looking for an off-the-grid solar charging backup battery solution? Sure.
