I just got a new Palm z22 off of eBay and I have to say, it’s a pretty charming little device.
Admittedly, I’ve never had one before so I didn’t understand the big deal with it when it first came around, maybe 10+ years ago. So, if I can recall, the things that went against it at the time it was first released were:
- No expansion slot.
- Small screen.
- Probably the smallest Palm OS device I’ve ever seen.
So, why, 10+ years later would I find it so charming? For 2/3 of the reasons I’ve listed. While I am slightly miffed that it doesn’t have an SD/MMC slot (totally ruining any possibility of adding it to my daily note-taker ambitions). It’s so tiny, I can stick it in any pocket, it runs Graffiti 1, and I kind of like the physical design of it.
I just can’t leave this device alone, every time I pass by it I have to pick it up and sort of just play with it.
Oh right, so what makes it so charming? The size, duh. It’s super pocketable. But who needs a PDA in 2019? Me, that’s who!
